Moving on up...
I've decided to move this blog to TypePad. You can find the new site at http://cowbell.typepad.com
See you there!
See you there!
I want it that way.
Work is an interesting beast. A few months ago I was amazingly busy. I was in the office at 9:00 and out at 11:00pm every day, working weekends, and generally running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I hated it. I woke up every morning just wanting to crawl under my bed and hide. I sat at my desk just wanting to crawl up under my desk and hide. And I went home exhausted with barely enough energy to take a shower and plop down on my bed. I hated my job and I hated the stress and anxiety.
Flash forward to the present day. I have nothing to do. I have no pending assignments or projects. I come into work around 10am everyday and leave between 5:00 and 6:00 everyday. I haven't worked a weekend in months. I sit at my desk surfing the Internet all day. I hate my job. I hate how boring it is. I hate that I'm sitting here doing nothing.
Therein lies hypocrisy of the Caffeine Addict. Sure, I say that I don't want to work, that all I want to do is just chill and cash my paycheck. But that's not really true. The fact is, I'm a gunner. I like to work. I like to think and contribute to a team. Riding the bench has never sat well with me.
That being said, I am also a slacker. Nothing makes me happier that sitting on my couch watching TV, surfing the Internet, reading US Weekly and InStyle, and listening to music. That, to me, is heaven. I don't like doing things and I'm not very high energy. I'm lazy.
So how do I reconcile these two facets of my personality? Easy. I'm Burger King. I want it my way. I want to work, but on my terms. I'm like Goldilocks. Too much work? Feh. Too little work? Ptooey. Just enough work to keep me busy for 9 hours out of the day? Just right.
Balance. All I've ever wanted is balance. But not over the course of an expanded period of time. I want it on a daily basis. I don't like being busy one day and not the next. Please. Someone find me a job that gets me balance.

Girl Power. Rocks.
It's news to them: Co-anchors make 'SNL' history
Poehler and Fey will be on Leno tonight so set your Tivos.
Additional reading:
Amy Poehler updates her 'SNL' career
Arnett: Role developed just in time
And from the Lexington Herald-Leader:
"Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the first two-woman Weekend Update anchor team in SNL history, are off to a fantastic start. At first we were worried Poehler wouldn't be able to replicate the chemistry Fey had with Jimmy Fallon, but our fears were unfounded. The two women have been friends since the early 1990s when they were the only two women in a Chicago improvisational comedy troupe. Their history together comes through in their easy banter and casual one-upping on SNL. An example, not from SNL but an interview with The New York Times: Asked about joining Fey, Poehler said, "I feel like, like, a blushing bride." Fey responded, "And I feel like an older, Greek oil magnate who's taken a young bride. She's the Jackie O. to my Ari Onassis. Secretly, she's disgusted by me but she has no choice."
